The Kristmas Kurnell Kurly

Well punters, here we are: Christmas time, with a Festive 500 to boot.

The forecast remains rather unpredictable, but 24 December seems to be easing, and so far is looking like the lesser of evils, weather-wise, in the next week

So let’s try our luck with a Christmas Eve special. This ‘lazy rider’ approach to the Festive 500 has been scientifically designed to maximise kilometres whilst minimising elevation.

Official starting point is the Caltex at the cnr of Turramurra Ave and Pacific Highway. Roll at 6:30am heading straight down the Highway (it really should be pretty quiet) collecting some lower north shore punters on route - and over the SHB.

We then follow ‘Blue’s Gong Ride route’ out the back of the CBD and to Tempe, Mascot and then branch away from Rockdale to the bay side of Kogarah. A very level ride around Botany Bay, all the way to Kurnell and Cape Solander lookout follows. We take a photo, turnaround and go back, and around the bay again back to La Perouse. Another dead end and another photo await. Finally we had back to town via Gardners/Bourke Road and take the lazy rider exit at Central Station, where a Covid Carriage to the elevated north awaits you. (Certain HM&WOTN may choose to ride on - God speed if you do).

All in all we think this is about 120km of strava with only about 500m of elevation. Good times. There will be a breakfast stop somewhere. Probably Kogarah. And probably nowhere flash. I’m working that out.

In the meantime, why not sign up for the KKK?

Oh, hang on…
